Focus on Children in Separation
FOCIS is a 4 hour seminar about the needs of children during and after the separation or divorce of their parents. The seminar is conducted by professionals with expertise in the areas of divorce and co-parenting. The effects of divorce on children can be negative and potentially long-term if they are not given the opportunity to discuss their feelings and thoughts regarding the change in family dynamics. Children in a separated family must master an additional set of tasks, as well as those posed by normal childhood development. This seminar educates parents as to options they can utilize to help their children adjust and teaches children coping skills to handle these additional tasks.

The classes are scheduled through contacting the Coalition office at 228-522-1965 between 9-5 Monday ÐFriday. The actual classes take place in the evenings.
Since 2002, 176 adults and 164 children have completed the program. The evaluations have been very positive. Some comments included: "I enjoyed the classes and so did my child." "This class gives insight into what our children are going through. It reminds me to keep our children's feeling first-our actions should be what will most benefit our children. As hurting angry adults, sometimes we forget."
