Pascagoula- "We just couldn't have done as much as we've done without him," said Jackson County Community Services Coalition's Program Director Kim Styron at a 100 Homes in 100 Days press conference on Tuesday, "Major Vincent has been the crutch that everyone working on this project has grown to rely on. And that's why he deserves this award."

Applause sounded from the audience of volunteers and recovery teams as Styron handed Salvation Army's Major Ron Vincent the Jackson County Community Services Coalition's M-V-P or Most Valuable Partner award.

"Everyone here knows that you have been instrumental in making sure every aspect of 100 Homes in 100 Days is successful. But that's not all you do. In total you are helping some 3000 families get back into a home," Styron said, "We wanted to take this time to acknowledge your dedication to the community."

JCCSC gives out its M-V-P award to outstanding members of the community. Vincent is the area commander for the Salvation Army- one of the five partner agencies of the 100 Homes in 100 Days project. While Vincent's organization is only a part of the leadership team helping rebuild 100 homes in south Pascagoula, Vincent and his organization have also teamed up with other groups to help thousands more South Mississippians move back into homes.

"This guy is amazing. He's so busy, but when you need something, he delivers, when you call, he's there." Stryon said, "Thanks so much."

Vincent says receiving the M-V-P award was a humbling experience.

"It's just my job," Major Vincent smiled, "South Mississippians are in need, and they need to know that someone cares. I'm here to answer their calls and help provide them with material, emotional, and spiritually healing."

Vincent said that while he is honored to be recognized for his commitment, he doesn't want to take all of the credit for the good things the Salvation Army is working on. "It's the army I have behind me that is doing all of the work. I just give the orders."

Major Vincent's time in Mississippi is ending soon. As part of Salvation Army's Territorial Response Team, Vincent can only serve two years in one place. He'll be leaving for Nashville, Tennessee at the end of June.
