Gautier Church Donates $2,300 to JCCSC

Monday, November 14th was a great day at the Jackson County Community Services Coalition headquarters in Gautier. Dianne Burns and Ken Taylor from the First United Methodist Church of Gautier stopped by to delivery a check for $2,300.
"You can't do much better than that," said Jim Yancey, JCCSC executive director, as he graciously accepted the check. "We usually have to search for grants or beat down doors to get the money we need to run all of our community programs. We definitely appreciate people coming to us with donations, thank you!"
Yancey added that the generous donation sends an encouraging message to the Coalition. "When a local church supports your work, you have the knowledge and the support you are doing the right kind of work in the community."
The First United Methodist Church raised the money for the Coalition through its Pumpkin Patch, a festival the church throws every year.
Starting October 15th, parents and children alike enjoyed fall-themed decoration like pumpkins, scarecrows, and gourds that adorned the church's grassy front lawn. The festival climaxed on the 20th with many outdoor fall-de-rah activities, great food, and holiday crafts for the entire family.
"This year was a real success," said Dianna Burns, Pumpkin Patch Coordinator, "And we are happy to be able to donate the proceeds to JCCSC. Not only are they practically our next door neighbors here in Gautier, but they are doing such great work with identifying and responding to the unmet needs of our community."
The donation will be placed in JCCSC's general operating fund and utilized for educating middle school students on drug and alcohol prevention.
